1911 Royal Opera House Programme, Printed on Silk

Programme from a June 26, 1911 State Performance of the Royal Opera at Covent Garden, in honor of the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary. The performance included the Russian Ballet with Nijinsky, Karsavina, Cecchetti, Nijinska and others in "Le Pavillon d'Armide," as well as scenes from Aïda, Roméo et Juliette, and Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Nellie Melba sang the role of Juliette, and Luisa Tetrazzini followed in the role of Rosina. Attractively printed on silk, fringed around the edges, with the Royal insignia and a decorative border with portraits of the King and Queen. Mounted onto linen and attractively framed. Usual creases with partial separations along the central vertical fold and a couple of small pulls or holes elsewhere to fabric, otherwise in fine condition. 12.5 x 18 inches (31.5 x 45.5 cm), mounted to an overall size of 15 x 21 inches (38 x 53 cm.) overall.

Rare original program from the historic 1907 performance series at the Théâtre de l'Opéra in Paris, "Cinq Concerts Historiques Russes," this being the fourth program, from Sunday, May 26, and including From the Middle Ages, Op. 79 by Alexander Glazunov, Thamar by Mily Balakirev, the fifth act of Modest Moussorgsky's opera Khovanshchina and Le Printemps and the Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18 by Sergei Rachmaninoff, the former conducted by and the latter with the solo piano performed by the composer himself.  Camille Chevillard conducted the other works, joined also by singers Zbroueff, Smirnow and Chaliapin.  2 pp. 8.5 x 10.75 inches (22 x 27.5 cm.). Early original program from the great violinist, age 25 at the time, performing as soloist in the Saint-Saens 3rd Concerto and "Habanera," under the baton of Edouard Brahy, the program including also the first performance of Goetz's "Symphonie en fa" and works by Grétry and Beethoven. Bifold program, Grand Theatre de Gand, 16 December, 1905. Under the baton of Edouard Brahy, the program includes the first performance of Goetz's "Symphonie en fa," and Thibaud performing as soloist in the Saint-Saens 3rd Concerto and "Habanera."
